Bug Introducing Changes: A Study with Android
نویسندگان
چکیده
Changes, a rather inevitable part of software development can cause maintenance implications if they introduce bugs into the system. By isolating and characterizing these bug introducing changes it is possible to uncover potential risky source code entities or issues that produce bugs. In this paper, we mine the bug introducing changes in the Android platform by mapping bug reports to the changes that introduced the bugs. We then use the change information to look for both potential problematic parts and dynamics in development that can cause maintenance implications. We believe that the results of our study can help better manage Android software development. Keywords-Bug; fixes; bug report; change log;

Reasons for Non-Applicability of Software Entropy Metrics for Bug Prediction in Android
Abstract—Software Entropy Metrics for bug prediction have been validated on various software systems by different researchers. In our previous research, we have validated that Software Entropy Metrics calculated for Mozilla subsystem’s predict the future bugs reasonably well. In this study, the Software Entropy metrics are calculated for a subsystem of Android and it is noticed that these metri...
متن کاملMining the Temporal Evolution of the Android Bug Reporting Community via Sliding Windows
The open source development community consists of both paid and volunteer developers as well as new and experienced users. Previous work has applied social network analysis (SNA) to open source communities and has demonstrated value in expertise discovery and triaging. One problem with applying SNA directly to the data of the entire project lifetime is that the impact of local activities will b...
متن کاملSmall Changes, Big Changes: An Updated View on the Android Permission System
Since the appearance of Android, its permission system was central to many studies of Android security. For a long time, the description of the architecture provided by Enck et al. in [31] was immutably used in various research papers. The introduction of highly anticipated runtime permissions in Android 6.0 forced us to reconsider this model. To our surprise, the permission system evolved with...
متن کاملException Handling Bug Hazards in Android: Results from a Mining Study and an Exploratory Survey
Adequate handling of exceptions has proven difficult for many software engineers. Mobile app developers in particular, have to cope with compatibility, middleware, memory constraints, and battery restrictions. The goal of this paper is to obtain a thorough understanding of common exception handling bug hazards that app developers face. To that end, we first provide a detailed empirical study of...
متن کاملDroidLeaks: Benchmarking Resource Leak Bugs for Android Applications
Resource leak bugs in Android apps are pervasive and can cause serious performance degradation and system crashes. In recent years, several resource leak detection techniques have been proposed to assist Android developers in correctly managing system resources. Yet, there exist no common bug benchmarks for effectively and reliably comparing such techniques and quantitatively evaluating their s...
